Rare and exquisite Paolo Buffa center or game table in walnut composed of inset reverse painted or eglomisé glass top with scalloped apron, four small drawers, stretcher with central medallion, and slightly splayed saber legs, Italy, 1940s. This sophisticated Buffa table is truly elegant in form and is a very rare model with the reverse painted glass top, which is a lovely rich shade of chestnut brown, and four drawers, which swivel or pivot out each holding a small copper ashtray. This iconic model table design is exemplary of Buffa’s earlier traditional Neoclassical works in the Art Deco style. All his handmade furniture during this period was constructed by skilled cabinetmakers and renowned artisans, most prominently Mario Quarti and Angelo Marelli.
