11 ¾ h x 2 ¾ dia in (30 x 7 cm)

Smokey glass inciso bottle with stopper in composite glass with finely wheel-engraved finish of delicate creases, incised on bottom Venini Italia.

Paolo Venini designed the incisi series in 1956-1957. The incisi are pieces in thick glass, cold-finished with slight grinding and closely packed horizontal engraved lines obtained through the help of a wheel with a serrated edge. These pieces were notable also for their characteristic shades of color, delicate but definite, resulting from the superposing of various layers of transparent colored glass. This incisi series of engraved glass pieces, which included about 50 models, were exhibited in 1956 at the 28th Venice Biennale and then the following year at the 11th Triennale of Milan. In designing the series, Venini had been influenced particularly by Scandinavian design from his travels in the countries in the Northern Europe.
